When I hit the 'create new blog post' button on this site, it prompts me to 'Add a Catchy Title'
Well I'm not sure how I can make a catchy titles on news of a new exhibition I'm taking part in.. and where I am at with regard to my social media. Hence the blunt to the point title.
First up. Exhibition News. Still in the planning stage, but it looks like its going to be taking place late September in the Hampton Court area. It'll be a lovely little exhibition in partnership with a couple of very talented artists.
I'm working with a curator who is providing an objective view on which eight images from my 'Angels and Dreamers' series should be shown.
The intention of my series is to promote the art of slowing down and 'seeing'.
We all know how social media and image intensive our lives have become. It has good and bad points. The good is that it allows people to show off their work more easily. The bad, it also allows people to share everything from their lives and we're inundated with adverts .
The result ? Most of us now just 'look' and scroll we don't 'see' and appreciate.
I recently read how as a society we have become used to being 'shown' things rather than seeing them them for ourselves like we did before the phone became more than a phone.
For some the quite a lot of their day is spent with their eyes and heads down with one finger scrolling and scrolling. They are missing so much.
And they are losing the art of 'seeing'.
To 'see' the art in something. The texture, the light etc etc. Once you slow down and start to regain that skill, I promise you, you'll realise how much of it you'd lost and how much more you'll look up.
Which dovetails nicely into my usual social media rant. I'm only going to post occasional updates on my silver jack photography Facebook page . Any other use will be strictly curtailed into checking in on a couple of groups I'm part of.
I opened a VERO account with the intention of moving over to that platform. It seems slicker, but already a sense of boredom with being too busy on social media rather than social in person and actually doing photography is creeping in. So I'm staying with instagram and will dip my toe into VERO now and again to see how that platform evolves.
Anyway, this was just a quick check in. I don't want to monopolise your time. Go 'see' stuff!
